It only works if you get your mind right, too.

Self-im·age : the idea one has about one’s abilities, appearance, and personality.

Within the three pillars of a healthy lifestyle lives nutrition, fitness and MINDSET! You can’t out-train a bad diet. Same can be said for a negative mindset. A lot of ones mindset when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle leads back to self image. Our self image is ingrained in us. It stems back from our parents, school, how we were raised. A negative self image can be hard to shake, it can hang on like a plague, but with the right coaching and corrected self talk, it’s possible to turn your self image from negative to positive and change the way you look at life!

Take Maxwell Maltz’s book Psycho-Cybernetics for example. Maltz’s was a successful cosmetic facial surgeon for many years. During his years as a surgeon he kept seeing a pattern with his patients. After surgery he’d have patients return and be thankful, telling him that he had changed their life for the better. While others would return saying that he botched their face and ruined their lives. He began to explore the idea of “inner scars” in relevance to the self image and feelings of unhappiness and insecurities. How even with cosmetic surgery, these people were unhappy with themselves. How you feel on the inside reflects your confidence, how you conduct yourself and how you view yourself. Have you ever taken a second to ask yourself the question, what is your subconscious mind telling you about yourself?

Maybe you catch yourself thinking a negative thought and you stop yourself and think- “What the hell? Why am I thinking that?”. Try to take in your subconscious thoughts and analyze them. “Why are these ingrained in me?” – why do they keep popping up in your head? Once you really pinpoint the origin of those thoughts, you can begin to defeat them by erasing and replacing with positive self talk. Whether your subconscious is telling you positive or negative thoughts-these thoughts will always lead back to how you approach and reach our fitness goals. You must make these positive changes within yourself in order to succeed. Whether it be in weight loss, your job, your relationship, they’re all connected.

SOCIAL MEDIA-It doesn’t mean anything. It’s garbage. It’s not real life. It’s not about how many likes you get, how many followers you have, comments and so on. It’s a self esteem destroyer. If you aren’t in the right mindset and you get on social media, it can be a spiral downwards for your self image. Comparison is the thief of joy. Remind yourself of that next time you get on Instagram or Facebook. Real lasting relationships are what make us human, not obsolete digital ones. Get the right people in your circle and great things will come to you.

Remember, no matter what you’ve been through. No matter what people have said to you, it’s up to you to make the change. You have to find the inner strength within yourself. It’s not going to happen over night. Time and persistence just like all other things in life. It takes 21 days to create a habit, and that’s just the beginning! The strongest part of you is your brain, you have to use that muscle to your ability. Flip that switch and start fighting those demons head on.

Ten things to adjust to work towards a more positive self image:

  1. Beliefs
  2. Thoughts
  3. Perspective
  4. Mindset
  5. WHO your friends are!
  6. What books you read.
  7. How many risk you’re willing to take.
